I didn't build my career in the arts by asking for support. I built it the same way I built my career in corporate sales — by making the revenue case, measuring outcomes, and delivering results.

For decades, arts organizations have been underfunded not because they lack value, but because no one was translating that value into language that funders, corporations, and city planners could act on. I spent 20 years doing exactly that in boardrooms for Frito-Lay, Hostess, Dr Pepper, and M&M Mars. Then I brought that same discipline into the arts — and everything changed.

Before Sandra Bassett ever led an arts organization, she managed territories and hit revenue targets for Frito-Lay, Hostess, Dr Pepper, and M&M Mars. For more than 20 years as a Regional Sales Director, she learned what it means to turn strategy into profit — and that foundation never left her.

When she made the transition into arts leadership, she became CEO of the Phoenix Center for the Arts and then the West Valley Arts Council. What she found was an ecosystem full of extraordinary talent and chronic underinvestment. So she got to work.

"I didn't leave the business world to enter the arts. I brought the business world with me."

Today Sandra serves as Development and Donor Engagement Manager at the Chandler Center for the Arts, leads PHX BIPOC Arts — connecting BIPOC artists with professional opportunities and business education — and chairs the East Valley Ebony Collective. She holds an MBA from Walden University.

Sandra is also a jazz performer, bandleader, and multi-instrumentalist — piano, organ, and alto saxophone. She has performed internationally, opened for The Temptations, and played the national anthem at Phoenix Suns and Mercury games. She leads the Motown Experience Tribute Band and directs the Sounds Academy Youth Motown Band.
